Grand Flow: The Home Transformation Experience You Want

Transforming your living space is a milestone life event, and your renovation experience must be as important as the final result. We developed Grand Flow to elevate our clients’ experience through all phases of the renovation process and enhance how their homes looks, functions, and feel.

Understanding Grand Flow: A Three-Dimensional Approach to Home Renovation

Grand Flow is a new concept in residential architecture which makes our clients more connected to their transformed homes because their journey is more enjoyable and their result is more personal.

  • Our Design Strategies: Optimize light, views, and space.
  • Your Experience of Design: A positive, transparent journey during construction.
  • Your Living Result: Enjoy a sense of ease, openness, and flow in your daily life.

These three dimensions work together, and they are Grand Flow.

The Core Architectural Elements of Grand Flow

At the heart of the architectural aspect of Grand Flow, is our design strategy to enhance  three spatial characteristics:

Light

We strategically reposition walls, enlarge openings, and optimize window placement to maximize natural illumination throughout your space. Light is valuable in apartments, so maximizing it increases both property value and daily enjoyment. While light seems finite when you cannot add windows, we have developed techniques that overcome this apparent limitation.

In recent projects, our analysis revealed remarkable improvements after renovation:

  • 37% increased sunlight exposure during the summer months
  • 42% more daylight during spring and fall
  • An impressive 58% boost in winter sunlight
Before and after floor plans of a 2-bed, 2-bath apartment after a complete transformation. Yellow areas illustrate the sunlight entering front rooms before and after relocating the kitchen and strategically removing/moving walls and door openings. The plans show 40% more yellow in the After because small rooms in front of the windows were removed, and door openings were shifted.

These improvements translate directly to your daily experience – brighter mornings, more productive afternoons, and homes that feel welcoming even during short winter days.

Views

Views extend your perceived space beyond your walls. During renovation, we position openings between rooms to maximize views — both within your apartment and to the outside world. Strategic placement of doorways and the removal of visual barriers create sight lines that connect multiple spaces, making your home feel more expansive and interconnected. These enhanced sight lines allow you to see more windows from various positions, amplifying the perception of light and spaciousness. Please see our article How To Optimize Views In Your Home.

A large living room with two seating areas of furnishings floating on a honey-toned parquet floor opens onto a room with dark floors and azure walls, and string lights over a dining table. Both rooms have furniture and art that are brightly colored and in harmony. An eclectic mix of mid-century modern furniture, contemporary accessories, and curated artwork creates a welcoming, dynamic living environment.

Space

Grand Flow reconsiders spatial relationships within your home. Rather than accepting existing constraints, we:

  • Capture underused space
  • Improve room shape and proportions
  • Create more usable floor area per square foot

By strategically removing walls, we make entertaining spaces feel larger. We consider your living room, dining room, kitchen, and foyer as key “entertaining rooms” and connect these areas with adjacent living spaces to create a seamless flow.

Before and after Kitchen comparison. Kitchen Before: Off-white inset paneled cabinets with crown molding and stainless steel appliances wrap in a U around a black and white checkerboard floor, and a hood projects over the restaurant-style stove. A brass schoolhouse light fixture over the sink hangs from a dropped ceiling dotted with recessed lights. The backsplash is wooden beadboard. Kitchen After: Now part of a larger kitchen, white overlay paneled cabinets, and a restaurant-style stove from an L around a walnut-toned wood floor. The hood is integrated into the cabinets, and the overall look is calm. The ceiling extends to a brightly lit full-height coffer in the center. The backsplash is a marble mosaic.

Your renovation experience forms a crucial component of Grand Flow. Our Delight Process ensures your journey is as positive as the final result.

Educational Approach

We help you understand the renovation process, share upcoming milestones, and explain the benefits behind seemingly burdensome requirements.

We create an environment where you can communicate openly about what you want to accomplish, we strategize iteratively until we find the right combination of expense, value, and features.

This transparency transforms potential frustrations into opportunities for engagement.

Monthly Check-ins as Accountability Measures

Predictable Billing

Financial transparency is essential to a positive renovation experience. Our approach eliminates common frustrations through:

  • Transparent flat monthly fees
  • No surprise additional charges

Before and after comparison. Kitchen Before: Wood cabinets from an L along a wall with two windows around a parquet-patterned vinyl floor. A ceiling fan with lights hangs from a dropped ceiling. A wooden cart is a peninsula next to the stove to extend the counterspace, opening onto a narrow hallway leading to the front of the house. Kitchen After: White cabinets reflect the light from a wall of windows that extends the length of the bungalow. Globe pendants and ceiling fans hang between the original wood rafters, uncovered to reveal a much more airy experience. The open-plan 20-foot-long Kitchen connects with the Dining and Living areas, with all spaces sharing a view of trees at the front of the house.
